Don’t Ask Me!

I came to Writer’s Roost to work. (If you missed that story about my new writing getaway, click HERE) 

Anyway, I’ve been sitting here looking at the lake and being tempted by the pool as I’m trying to make a “book trailer” for my latest book, Corners and Straight Edges. I watched a YouTube video on Canva on how to make a book trailer.

I wrote the script. I chose the background and all the elements. I started putting the thing together and for some reason, they came out in a different order. And the background disappeared.

Don’t ask me how I did that.  I have no clue.

So… I started over. I watched another tutorial and thought I had it nailed. 

Nope.

The one victory is…  I did not cry. This time. 

While I embrace most technology…well, some technology, I struggle learning new ways to use it. I don’t dare ask for help. The answer always seems to start with…“All you have to do is…”

Still, it is a part of today’s landscape. So… I turned my attention to something else for a bit. I washed the new bed linens and put them on the beds. Then I returned home and ate a bite before giving it another go.

This time? It worked. Okay, it isn’t as flashy and cool as others I’ve seen, but I’m still learning. I’m attempted to put it up here so you could check it out. 

Did it work work? No. If you have any advice or words of encouragement or wisdom, I welcome it…as long as you don’t start by saying….  “all you have to do is…”

Hiking Across Florida When I was growing up in Florida, “Beach Week” was a time-honored week off to swim, ski, sunbathe, and play before that summer job began or the packing got underway for college. Of late, it’s been noted in some circles as more of a drinking party mixed with drugs and sex, but in the late sixties and early 1970’s, it was a week for seventeen and eighteen year olds to breathe in summer and be free of work or school.     In June of 1970, after the high school seniors had walked the graduation corridor and the juniors were gearing up for their senior year, a group of six friends gathered for their version of “Beach Week.” All boys.   Three of the boys graduated that year. Kosova: The Soft Launch, Chapter 1 Scene 2

I left Cincinnati. For Kenosha. You thought I was going to say Kosova, didn’t you? Kenosha is my first stop on this journey. I’m here a week before flying the friendly skies to my new home. My youngest daughter, Kendall, calls it a “soft launch.” Speaking at the E3 Children's Ministry  Conference In Wisconsin Envision, Equip, & Encourage I had made a commitment to conduct a teacher workshop in Wisconsin before I learned of the teaching position in Kosova. Now I see how perfectly God made it all work together. My second-born lives in Kenosha. I’m able to spend time with her, her husband and four of my grandchildren before I leave the States for ten months. I’m away from home, but still able to talk with my mother and two other daughters via cell phone each day. And I’m able to assess all that I packed. Or didn’t.
