Teaching first graders is not for the faint of heart. A teacher is responsible for more than reading, writing, and arithmetic. First grade teachers set the tone for student success in school. Beyond the academics, teachers must assure the safety of the students through fire drills and tornado drills. And yes, intruder drills. Katharine, “Kat,” Gilmore feels up to the challenge despite the demands of raising a teenage son, looking out for her aging mother, and putting on a smile for her workaholic husband.
Kat does her best to not “bring her work” home, but it’s hard. Her family recognizes her concern. Her mother prays with her for one child in particular. A child caught in the middle of a custody battle. Ellie. When an intruder breeches the school, Kat and her students are in the hallway, scattered between the restrooms, water fountains, and classrooms, Kat faces her fears and does what she can to protect her students, but has no answer to the question, “Where’s Ellie?”

ReplyDeleteBoys/men look at events in a more black and white way than girls/women do…usually. On the other hand, women are often more organized and take over tasks quickly to finish them in a thorough way, while men might might just throw everything in a bag and say, let’s go. (I’m talking about packing for a trip in this example.). But once again, there are always exemptions.
